Humerus Nail

+ Description
The Humerus Intramedullary Nail is a load-sharing implant used for internal fixation of humeral fractures. Designed to fit within the medullary canal of the humerus, this nail offers minimally invasive, stable fixation while preserving soft tissue and vascular supply. It is available in anterograde and retrograde insertion options to accommodate various surgical approaches and fracture types.
Made from biocompatible materials such as titanium alloy or stainless steel, the nail features multiple proximal and distal locking holes to allow for secure fixation and rotational control. Some variants include curved shafts for better anatomical conformity, as well as cannulated versions for guided insertion over a guidewire.
+ Indications
- Proximal humerus fractures:- Especially two- or three-part fractures where joint preservation and early mobilization are priorities.
- Midshaft (diaphyseal) humerus fractures:- Offering excellent alignment, rotational control, and stability with reduced soft tissue disruption.
- Distal humerus fractures:- Select retrograde nail options can be used for appropriate distal fractures with minimal articular involvement.
- Comminuted or segmental fractures:- Ideal for complex patterns where traditional plating may be insufficient or overly invasive.
- Pathologic fractures:-Provides internal support in weakened bone due to metastases or osteoporosis.
- Fractures in polytrauma patients:– Facilitates quick, stable fixation with minimal blood loss, aiding faster recovery.
- Nonunions or delayed unions:- Used as a revision strategy when other fixation methods fail.
- Minimally invasive fracture management:- Preferred when soft tissue preservation is critical, reducing infection and healing time.
