ENDERS NAIL

Accordion Hover Style
+ Description

The Ender’s Nail is a flexible intramedullary fixation device used primarily for treating fractures of long bones through elastic stable intramedullary nailing (ESIN). Typically made from stainless steel, Ender’s Nails are thin, solid rods with a curved or hooked tip that enable three-point fixation within the medullary canal. These nails are inserted in multiples (usually two or more) to provide symmetrical stabilization of the fracture and promote biological healing with minimal surgical trauma.

Ender Nails are inserted retrograde or antegrade, depending on the bone and fracture type. Their flexible nature allows the nails to conform to the natural curvature of the bone, making them ideal for minimally invasive procedures, especially in pediatric and elderly patients or osteoporotic bone.

+ Indications
  • Femoral shaft fractures (pediatric and select adult cases):- Especially midshaft fractures where flexible nailing is sufficient.
  • Distal femoral fractures:- In low-demand elderly patients, as a minimally invasive alternative to plating.
  • Proximal or midshaft humerus fractures:- Particularly in elderly or osteoporotic patients with good alignment.
  • Tibial shaft fractures:- Used in children and select adults where stability can be achieved with elastic fixation.
  • Forearm fractures (radius and ulna):- Particularly in growing children, preserving the physis and allowing for early mobilization.
  • Pathological fractures:- Offers stabilization with less invasive surgery in bones weakened by disease.
  • Fractures near growth plates (pediatric):- Preserves the growth plate, minimizing risk of growth disturbance.
  • Minimally invasive treatment of long bone fractures:- Especially when soft tissue condition is poor or fracture exposure should be avoided.
