Epiphyseal Staple

Accordion Hover Style
+ Description

The Epiphyseal Staple is a precision orthopedic implant used primarily for growth modulation surgeries in pediatric orthopedics. It is engineered to temporarily halt growth at specific growth plates (physes) to correct angular deformities in growing bones, such as genu varum (bow legs) or genu valgum (knock knees).

Crafted from biocompatible Stainless Steel or Titanium, this staple offers superior strength and corrosion resistance, making it suitable for long-term implantation. Its symmetrical leg design ensures uniform compression across the physis, providing predictable and controlled correction. The flat-profile bar and precisely machined legs minimize irritation and enhance implant stability during bone remodeling.

This staple is frequently used in guided growth techniques and temporary epiphysiodesis procedures in skeletally immature patients.

+ Indications
  • Guided Growth in Pediatric Orthopedics – Controls growth at the physis to correct angular deformities like genu valgum and genu varum.
  • Temporary Epiphysiodesis – Slows or halts growth on one side of the growth plate to achieve bone alignment.
  • Correction of Limb Length Discrepancies – Supports minimally invasive deformity correction techniques.
  • Revision Procedures – Can be used in re-correction cases where previous guided growth failed or was incomplete.
  • Long-Term Implantation – Suitable for procedures requiring prolonged growth modulation with minimal hardware complications.
