Tibia Nail

The Tibia Intramedullary Nail is a load-sharing internal fixation device designed for the treatment of tibial shaft and metaphyseal fractures. It is inserted into the medullary canal of the tibia, typically through an entry point at the proximal tibia, and provides stable fixation while preserving the periosteal blood supply and minimizing soft tissue disruption.
Made from biocompatible materials such as titanium alloy or stainless steel, tibial nails are available in various lengths, diameters, and curvatures to accommodate patient anatomy and fracture type. The design includes proximal and distal locking options, which allow for static or dynamic locking configurations, ensuring rotational and axial stability.
Advanced designs may include multi-planar locking, cannulated versions for guidewire insertion, and angle-stable locking screws for enhanced fixation in osteoporotic or comminuted bone.
- Tibial shaft fractures:- Most common application, including transverse, oblique, spiral, and comminuted fractures.
- Proximal or distal metaphyseal tibia fractures:- With locking screws providing additional control in widened areas.
- Segmental tibia fractures:- Effective in bridging large, unstable gaps while preserving alignment.
- Open tibial fractures (Gustilo I, II, IIIA):- Particularly effective in polytrauma and high-energy trauma scenarios.
- Pathological fractures of the tibia:- Offers stabilization in osteolytic or metastatic bone.
- Nonunion or malunion of tibial fractures:- Ideal for revision surgeries where plating has failed or soft tissue is compromised.
- Osteotomies of the tibia:- Used for controlled realignment of deformities with intramedullary support.
- Fractures in polytrauma patients:- Facilitates early mobilization with reduced blood loss and soft tissue handling.
